Skills

Skills are your personal power. They level up by doing. There's nothing to grind in a menu; just play the game and your abilities sharpen on their own. Open them any time with /skills.

How Skills Work

Every action you take in the Cove feeds a matching skill. Mine ore and your Mining climbs. Loose arrows and your Archery climbs. Brew potions and your Alchemy climbs. You never click a button to train. The activity is the training.

  • /skills: opens your skill overview and lets you spend points
  • /skills profile: shows your totals, strengths, and where you've invested
  • /skills top: the server-wide leaderboard, for the competitive bees

Levels, Points & Perks

Every skill caps at level 97. Each level you earn grants a point to invest in that skill's perks. There are two kinds:

  • Passive perks are always-on. They unlock starting at level 2 and rank up every 5 levels. Each skill has 5 passive perks covering things like bonus drops, damage, defense, and special effects. They work in the background forever once unlocked.
  • Mana abilities are powerful effects you activate on demand, one per skill. They draw from your mana pool.

The XP Curve

XP required to reach level N: 100 x (N-2)^2 + 100

LevelXP to reach
5900
106,500
2032,500
50230,500
97898,900

Early levels come fast. The back half of the curve is where the real grind is.

Mana

Mana is the pool that powers your active abilities. It regenerates on its own over time: no items, no rituals, just wait a beat and it refills. Your base pool is 20 mana, and each point of Wisdom adds 2 more. Base regen is 1 per tick, plus 0.1 per point of Regeneration.

Mana costs

All mana abilities currently cost 0 mana, so your pool is not a limiter right now. The system is in place and will tighten as the server grows. Regeneration is still worth investing in for the regen stat bonus.

Spend points with intent

Points are yours to assign. Lean into the skills that match how you actually play. There's no wrong build, but a focused one feels far stronger than a scattered one.

Stats

Skill levels feed directly into eight stats. These apply across everything: combat, survival, gathering.

StatWhat it does
Strength+0.5% damage per point
Health+0.4 HP per point
Luck+0.5 per-skill luck per point (better drops, rarer finds)
Wisdom+1% XP gain and +2 mana per point
ToughnessDamage reduction on a 1.01^-x curve: stacks with diminishing returns
Crit Chance+1% chance to land a critical hit per point
Crit Damage+1% bonus crit damage per point
SpeedMovement speed bonus per point
Regeneration+0.1 HP regen per tick per point

Different skills feed different stats. Mining builds Luck, Toughness, and Crit Damage. Fighting builds Strength and Crit Damage. Defense builds Toughness and Health. The skill you grind shapes your character.

Your gear stacks straight on top of these same stats. It is one shared pool, not two separate systems: the bonuses on your accessories add directly to what your skills have built. Run /stats in-game to see your combined total from skills and gear together.

Crafting and Magic Skills

Alchemy Level by brewing potions. Passive perks improve brew strength and unlock better recipes.

Enchanting Level by applying enchantments. Passive perks improve enchant outcomes and reduce costs.

Sorcery Level through magic-focused activity.

Sorcery

Sorcery has no abilities configured on this server yet. It is present and can be leveled, but does not currently grant mana abilities or unique passives. This will change as the server develops.

Healing Level by restoring health to yourself or allies. Passive perks improve self-heal rate and support output.

Forging Level by smithing and crafting equipment. Passive perks improve crafting outcomes and material efficiency.

Why Skills Matter

Skills stack underneath everything you do, quietly improving your whole experience:

  • A high Mining skill turns every quarry run into a bigger, faster payday.
  • Fighting and Defense perks are what make dungeon bosses go from impossible to doable.
  • Farming and Foraging multiply the output of farms and tree groves you were already tending.
  • Mana abilities give you tools no item can match: a gather surge, a damage burst, a clutch heal.

The longer you play, the more these compound. Skills are the foundation everything else is built on.

Skills vs Jobs

Don't confuse the two. Jobs pay you Gold and XP for activities you do. Skills empower you with passive boosts and active abilities that make you better at those same activities. They run side by side: one mining session earns Gold from your Miner job and climbs your Mining skill at the same time.
